These days, I help men and women be the best possible Moms and Dads and spouses by first taking care of themselves. The old saying is true: first put on your own oxygen mask.
In other words, you have to help yourself before you help others.
And I should know because I made a lot of mistakes.
I spent hours and hours over years and years pouring my time, energy and money into diet and exercise programs that left me tired and unhappy.
Endless hours of cardio may have helped me see the magic number on the scale that I wanted to see. But I sacrificed muscle, time and energy with no long term solution.
I was restrictive with what I ate.
I never ate pizza, pasta or rice.
Carbs were my sworn enemy.
And I bought into the hype that carbs and fatty foods were what was making me “fat.”
I wasn’t “fat,” but I was what you might call “skinny fat.” I was not happy with how I looked. I had been dieting so hard that I had lost muscle. My metabolism had plummeted.
The answer turned out to be strength training. It changed my life.
We started doing family Pizza Night and I made delicious pasta dishes. All of those carbs helped me build muscle. Weight lifting truly gave me the body transformation and freedom that I had been craving for two decades.
Now I help others avoid the mistake of too much cardio, especially cardio without properly fueling your body. This will only cause your body to metabolize itself for energy and cause you to lose muscle. This will leave you looking soft and “skinny fat.”
